As we all know, Elwyn turned 3 back in October...and yes peeps...she was still sleeping in a crib. This child has been quite a challenge for me. I was spoiled having Willow first. When she was a baby i would just lay her in her crib at night and she would fall asleep on her own, no crying involved. She was sleeping through the night at about 6 weeks. When we moved her into her big bed at age 2, she would call for us in the morning to come and get her out...even though she could clearly get out herself. Willow has been the best little sleeper i could ever ask for, her sister on the other hand, has been a NIGHTMARE!!!
Elwyn had colic as an infant...so nights were a living HELL for us. She would cry and cry...then scream, and then cry somemore. She would NOT go to sleep on her own. We had to rock her, and then walk around with her, rock her some more, etc. etc. Each night i would go to sleep as soon as we put Willow down, and Rich would hold Elwyn until she fell asleep. That way i got at least 2 hours of sleep before she was handed off to me. Everytime we tried to move her into Willow's room, she kept Willow up with her crying and carrying on. I finally had to bring Willow in with us, and let Elwyn have a room to herself to cry in. She has been this way much of her life. Everyone would tell us...'Let her cry', well Elwyn does not give up. She cries and cries and cries...she doesn't eventually fall asleep...she CRIES!!! ANYWHO...I was finally able to get Elwyn in with Willow (poor Willow), and we have come to this point in our lives where Elwyn is over 3 yrs old and should be in a bed. Well peeps...i don't want to put her in a bed because i know the consequences of doing such a thing:(
I will skip to my point, over Christmas break we finally put the bunk beds together and moved our trouble maker into a real bed. Willow has been LOVING being on the top bunk. I will find her up there reading ALL THE TIME. She asks me when it is her 'quiet time', just so she can go to her room and read on her bed. Elwyn was VERY excited to be in a real bed. I thought she might miss the crib...NO, she immediately figured out her new found freedom and has been leading me to an early grave ever since. I knew it would be bad, but a little part of me thought that she might suprise me...and stay in her bed...and be a good girl...YEAH RIGHT!!! Every night is a fight to get her to stay in bed...and not bug her sister...who needs her sleep.
We still have the crib up...in their room...that serves as a reminder to my troublemaker that if she makes one sly move she will swiftly be put back into her crib. Does she care...NO!!! She is out of her bed at least 10 times a night still (and this is after 2 weeks). She hangs from the top bunk and bugs Willow. Last night i heard Willow yelling at Elwyn to be quiet. I went in there to find Elwyn laying in her bed, as if she were asleep, clicking her tongue...JUST TO BUG WILLOW!!! I asked her what she was doing and she said, "But mom, i have to clock my tongue." SERIOUSLY!!!!
One of these days, i pray, that my little Elwyn will figure out how to sleep through the night, and stop bugging Willow....and me!!! I look forward to taking the crib to the dump...and never seeing another crib in my life:)

Those are some cute bedspreads. :) And I totally feel your pain! We moved our little guy to a toddler bed right before his sister came. The drama went on for almost 4 months! It was horrible and I felt like a horrible mother for all the times I 'lost' it. We tried everything! We did the Super Nanny method, and one night I started counting how many times he got out. I stopped after I reached 55, and he was not slowing down! We tried rewards, taking things away...nothing worked. Finally our of sheer desperation we just put one of those child proof things on his door knob and shut the door. The first night when he figured out he couldn't get out, he cried...we went in and reassured him a few times and then he gave up and fell asleep. After that, he didn't cry it all, he stayed in bed and fell asleep. It's like we had to tell his little brain that all options were gone, the only choice was to GO TO SLEEP! So, this was long...but I guess I wanted to say hang in there, and I hope you can figure something out that works for your little girl. They're all different. Good luck!
This week it has been my goal to get Lyla to go to sleep on her own, without me having to rock her. So far so good. It started off with a 40 minute melt down, but now we are down to 15-20 minutes of whimpering and then passing out. I haven't tried to get her to put herself down at night yet, only at naptimes. Wish me luck!
Moving beds is just plain too exciting!
Change can be so exciting! Especially when it comes to new furniture, new bedspreads, etc!
